SWEET RIDE Donated to Support the Kids!

Through the generosity of Mr. Bruce Stone, a 1937 Plymouth Street Hot Rod has been donated In Memory of Frank Pontisso to the George Jeffrey Children's Centre. In turn this donated Street Hot Rod will be raffled in a new fundraiser with proceeds going to support children with disabilities in our community that are treated at the George Jeffrey Children's Centre. Three years ago Bruce Stone was in the market to get a convertible top repaired. After several visits to Frank’s Upholstering shop, Bruce was encouaged by Frank to attend the regular “Saturday Get Togethers;” hence a close friendship was formed.

Through this friendship, Bruce felt the donation of this 1937 Plymouth Street Hod Rod would be a wonderful way to remember his dear friend that made him feel so welcomed to this community. Stone stated,”That of the many stories he recalls at the get togethers it was the one the Late Frank Pontisso conveyed about his first visit to the George Jeffrey Children's Centre that stood out. Frank had been contacted to look at some furniture at the old Centre on Lillie street. It was his first visit to the Centre and he was so moved by what he saw he agreed to do the job at no charge.” Bruce further adds, “I felt that donating the car to the George Jeffrey Children's Centre would be a opportunity to honor his dear friend and at the same time help a very worthwile organization that was near and dear to Frank’s heart.” Frank’s wife Linda Pontisso recalls Franks reaction to his first visit as well, “Frank was so emotional after being at the centre and he wanted to help in some way.” Linda added, “I was moved by the geneous donation of the car from Bruce and felt it was a wonderful way of celebrating Frank’s life while supporting the George Jeffrey Children's Centre.”

Proceeds from this Street Hot Rod Raffle will go to support the George Jeffrey Children's Centre. The Centre is dedicated to providing programs and services that meet the physical, developmental, and social needs of children and families dealing with special needs. Bob Speer, President, George Jeffrey Children's Centre stated at a recent press conference, “We are very grateful to Mr. Stone for the donation in Memory of Frank Pontisso. It is an extremely generous act and a very special way to honour him and help us in our mission to enrich the lives of the children and families we serve.”

The vehicle to be raffle will be a 1937 Plymouth 4 door sedan Custom Street Rod, valued at $25,000. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. Through the partnership with the Lakehead Antique Car Club and the ACT UCT this car will be around town on display for all to see. As well as in the Christmas Parade.
