|
Dogs, Cats, furry friends and other creatures gathered at The Pet Shack on December 3rd and 4th to see Santa Claus and help support a couple of local charities. Professional photographer Greg Malo generously spent his weekend taking snapshots of dogs, cats and other family pets with Santa in support of the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation and Local Dog Rescue.
Over 170 people and their over 160 pets stopped into the studio space on Squier Street provided by the Pet Shack to take part in the third annual Pet Photos with Santa fundraiser. Each charity received $1560 from the proceeds of the photoshoot.

Project Stocking Stuffer
|
This Christmas Season, the members of the Student Union of Confederation College came together to create a community outreach project to focus on children at Christmas. This task was titled “ Project Stocking Stuffer.” The goal was to fill stockings for children ages 0-5 and 5-10, for both boys and girls, and donate them to a childrens’ center that would distribute them to all of their children. Confederation College students were able to bring together 60 stockings. The George Jeffrey Children's Foundation was very pleased to receive a portion of these stockings, and several children who attend the Centre were even more pleased to receive them!
Speaking on behalf of the students involved, Ali Crane, Senator of Health and Community Services at Confederation College said, "We are happy to be providing some of these stockings to the George Jeffrey Children’s Centre. Their hard work and dedication towards providing the best care for children in the community inspired us to be involved in a small part of what they do."

Inaugural Patrick Sharp Golf Tournament
|
The George Jeffrey Children's Foundation is proud to announce the inaugural “Patrick Sharp Children’s Charity Golf Classic” in support of the George Jeffrey Children's Centre.” The Tournament will take place August 9th 2012 at the Fort William Country Club.
The 2011 NHL All-Star Game MVP has always had a special place in his heart for the children at the George Jeffrey Children's Centre. He took time out of his day with the Stanley Cup following his 2010 championship victory with the Chicago Blackhawks to visit and have his picture taken with children at the Centre. “One of the highlights of the day with the Stanley cup was visiting the George Jeffrey Children's Centre and I fully intend on working hard so I can bring the cup back again next year.” said Patrick Sharp. Patrick was the guest participant at the 17th Annual Investors Group Charity Golf Classic which supports the George Jeffrey Children's Centre. The Investors tournament originated to combine a venue to raise money inside of a competitive and fun event to benefit the community. Investors Group has graciously turned over their tournament to the George Jeffrey Children's Foundation and there was no hesitation when Patrick was asked to step in to becoming the ambassador for the new tournament which will replace the Investors Charity Golf Classic.
“It was a difficult choice to move on because this tournament has been a rewarding experience to help children and our community for 17 years. Investors Group will continue to support this event, but having the tournament named after Patrick Sharp, a great ambassador for not only children but for Thunder Bay, makes for a logical transition to bring Thunder Bay’s most popular charity golf tournament to the next level.” said Larry Lovis, Chair of Investor’s Group Charity Golf Classic.
All Proceeds from this tournament will assist the George Jeffrey Children's Foundation in helping to provide the resources to ensure that the George Jeffrey Children's Centre is able to fulfill its mission of enriching the lives of children dealing with physical and developmental disabilities in Northwestern Ontario.
“We are extremely grateful to Patrick and to Investors Group for their ongoing support and dedication throughout the years. We look forward to working with them in a different capacity for this exciting new tournament.” said Mary Anne Comuzzi, Director of Development George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.
Anyone interested in sponsorship or golfing can contact Mary Anne Comuzzi at the George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.
