Ladies Venet Society Comes Full-Circle With George Jeffrey Children's Foundation

July 21, 2022

After 82 years of commitment to the Italian community and to supporting local charities, the Ladies Venet Society has come to an end.

In 1940, the Society was formed to unite ladies who traced their cultural heritage to the Venet regions of Italy. Their aim was to provide a place for recent immigrants from those Northern Provinces to converse, exchange common ideas, and cooperate in activities beneficial to the Italian community of Thunder Bay.

Their role evolved over time to include a number of charitable activities. Many city organizations have benefitted from their fund-raising efforts. Over the years many people from our city flooded the DaVinci Centre to enjoy the festival atmosphere of the Carnevale Tea, the Chestnut Dinner Dance and the Daffodil Dinner Dance. These singular events allowed the Society to donate large sums to the Regional Hospital Foundation, St. Joseph's Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society and George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.

The Thunder Bay Historical Museum has accepted artifacts and items of historical significance and Magnus Theatre Company has received regional costumes.

The Society is pleased to come full circle as the first Carnivale Tea donation was made to the Crippled Children's Centre and now their final bank-clearing donation is made to the Centre's new home - George Jeffrey Children's Centre. "Mille Grazie"
